As Tuesday the 29th was my birthday I decided to look at a recent acquisition that took me back to a time in my childhood. A pair of Jaco roller skates. They were red leather and metal extendable skates. Mine were ceremoniously taken from me by older brothers, taken apart, redesigned and reconstructed with the addition of a shortened plank of wood into the latest craze!
It was now just a useless plank on wheels.
And I had one skate!

For each drawing I explored different processes of looking and making. Strangely the most simple drawing, Thursday, took the longest as I measured and scaled the pieces down 50%. I also had to visualise the shape flattened out making adjustments as I went. It was not my usual mode of working and it felt clumsy. This made me think about how I produced work and what is taken for granted. Are there methods of production that are avoided by artists due to the speed, size, material or other? It has made me think about the avoidances that could potentially take me in different directions.
